The town they live in, Sunnydale, California, was built on a Hellmouth, and Buffy battles vampires and all sorts of other demons with the aid of her schoolmates Xander and Willow. Her first few months as Slayer are concerned with foiling the resurrection of the Master, a powerful vampire who wants to open the Hellmouth. Buffy is romanced by the vampire Angel - nee Angelus - who is cursed to have a mortal's soul. | In SAINT PUDENTIANA THE FAIRY BANE Pudentiana Claudia Rufins is granddaughter of the British prince Caractacus in exile on the capital planet of the Roman Interstellar Empire in the first century A.D. after Caractacus' failed revolution against Emperor Claudius. At fifteen she is discovered by Caractacus' father Bran to be the "Chosen One", the single girl of the present generation in all the universe magically empowered to send fairies back to their home dimension of Annwfn against their will and permanently. Bran, a Fairy Lore Master and like Caractacus' whole family a converted Christian, and Pudentiana discover that the sign of the Cross is particularly effective against Fairies, and battle against them on Rome with the aid of Pudentiana's cousins Linus and Genuissa. Her first few months as Fairy Bane are concerned with foiling the resurrection of Nuada, the silver-handed fairy king whose long-ago defeat left Britain to humans. Pudentiana is romanced by the fairy Genius - nee Fabian - who is cursed to have a mortal's conscious. | Saint Pudentiana was one of the first martyrs, after with her brother Praxedes operating a safe house for Christians in Rome. Caractacus' father was actually the king Cymbeline. Claudia Rufina, the only Briton mentioned in the Bible (in Paul's letters) was Pudentiana's mother and may have been Caractacus' daughter; Bran was her grandfather. Linus the successor of St. Peter may have been Claudia's brother or son. Genuissa was the name of a daughter of Emperor Claudius who married a British ally. A genius in Roman religion was a sort of guardian angel. Fabian was a Czech knight turned into a fairy by an ex-lover who tried unsuccessfully to make him an evil fairy. | |||
