| In my sketchbooks (or, previous to my keeping sketchbooks, on my schoolwork) I've always doodled myself and my friends. Sometimes I draw us done up as favorite characters. Sometimes I just draw the characters, and it varies how much the symbolism is rendered transparent by incorporation of subject-audience injoke. Since the mid-90s I've had to rely more and more on the last method because most of my palling around is on the internet and I infrequently know what my buddies actually look like. |
