comments: Onyx Cave is part of Guntown Mountain Amusement Park, a tourist attraction beside I-65 in the middle of Kentucky's cave country. At the top of the mountain, which is really more of a large hill, is a Wild West town complete with scheduled bank robberies, gunfights and the occasional hanging. Patrons ride a skylift to reach "Guntown". The complex also includes a little excursion train, petting zoo, carnival rides, haunted house, and a couple of gift shops. Guntown Mountain is just one of several tourist traps in Cave City, which has been the jumping-off place to Mammoth Cave National Park for many years. All up and down KY 70 between Cave City and the national park are caves, gift shops, mini-golf courses, go-cart tracks, restaurants, even a wax museum. |
