I was born in Key West, Florida. My father was in the Navy, and we moved around quite a bit while I was growing up. Daddy was in the civil engineer corps, and when he was stationed in Key West, he was in charge of Seabees - one of the Naval Construction Battalions. So my favorite image for representing my Navy Brat youth is the seal of the Seabees.

We lived in Key West, FL; three suburbs of Washington, DC; Monterrey, CA; Iceland; the San Francisco Bay Area; and Houston, TX when I was growing up.

I met my husband, Matt, while I was attending Rice University in Houston. We lived in Houston awhile. Then we moved here to Nicholasville, KY, a suburb of Lexington, KY, where Matt was born and raised.

When people ask me where I'm from, I'll tell them that I'm from Texas. This may not make sense to people, unless they were also military brats. We moved pretty often while I was growing up, but my grandparents all lived in Houston. My parents maintained permanent residency in Texas, as is available to military personnel. We visited my grandparents as often as possible, and when Daddy was stationed in Viet Nam, we lived with my maternal grandparents, Mammaw and Pappaw.

My dad was in the Navy for 20 years, and in California he chose a second duty assignment in the Bay Area, just so that my brother and I could each go to a single high school for four years.

When Daddy retired, my parents moved back to Texas. They are currently living in San Antonio. Daddy enjoys work there as a forensic engineer for a private consulting firm. He is very active in their church, as well as in the Gideons International organization. Mom is also very active in their church, as well as in the Stonecroft Ministries. They both travel often, and our boys are fortunate to see Granmommy and Grandaddy very often, even though they live so far away.

My brother settled in Sugar Land, TX. We occasionally see each other at my parents' for holidays; he works as a CAD technician, and spends a lot of his time and energy on computers and net gaming. He currently hosts servers for Quake 2 & 3, Unreal Tournament and Half-Life.
