Conversion of waffle hat (http://knithats.tripod.com/hat/id3.html) for straight needles Materials Needed: Skein worsted weight yarn (Ship Support is requesting drab (camo, browns, dark greens, black, etc) colors right now. Size 8 needle or whatever size you need to get the gauge below. Yarn Needle Scissors Gauge: 4 stitches to 1", 6 rows to 1" Cast on 76 stitches. (Knit 2, Purl 2) across. Repeat this row for 12 rows. Pattern Rows: Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Rows 3 and 4: (K2, P2) across. Repeat the pattern row until the hat measures 7", ending with the Purl row (row 2). Decrease Rows: Row 1: (K2, P2 tog) across Row 2: (K1, P2) across Row 3: Knit Row 4: Purl Row 5: (K2 tog, P1) across Row 6: (K1, P1) across Row 7: Knit Row 8: Purl Row 9: (K1, K2 tog) across Row 10: Purl Row 11: (K 2 tog) across Row: 12: Purl Repeat rows 11 and 12 until only 5 stitches remain and cut yarn leaving a long tail. Using large eyed sewing needle run thread through remaining stitches and pull tight, then sew back seam. Weave in ends and finish off. To make a child's size hat: Cast on 64 stitches and follow above knitting instructions until piece measures 6". Follow instructions then to decrease and complete hat. For a new born cast on 48 or 52 stitches and follow instructions until piece measures 5", then follow decrease instructions and finish. To add a roll brim to your hat, at the beginning instead of the (K2, P2) for 12 rows: Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Repeat these two rows 4 times more (10 rows total).
