November 2001 Hike Log
- Cave Hill Cemetery, 4 Nov.:
About 35 people, a few new, walked through this historic
pastoral cemetery, walking probably around 6 miles.
Many of them ate at Wick's Pizza afterward.
- Red River Gorge, 11 Nov.:
About 27 people hiked, despite the 9:00 start time and probably
in part because of the warm weather.
About 15 did a fast 8-mile moderate loop starting near
Koomer Ridge.
Another 10 visited Sky Bridge Arch, picked up two stragglers
and hiked 5 or 6 miles on the Douglas trail in the Clifty
Wilderness along the Red River.
Many of the hikers had an early dinner at the Cantuckee Diner
in Winchester.
- Charlestown State Park, 18 Nov.:
The (20-something?) hikers did trails 2 and 3 for a total of
4-5 miles.
- On Thanksgiving Day, we had our usual pot-luck breakfast,
but not at the usual place; Mandy U. hosted the gathering
that brought out current and former hikers.
Several walked about a half mile on the nature trail and fitness
path at the nearby E. P. Sawyer State Park.
- About 15 people went on an unscheduled hike at
Bernheim Forest
on part of the Millennium Trail.
After a picnic lunch, six continued hiking, doing most of the
Millennium (and some backtracking) for a total of about 14 miles!
- Knobstone Trail, 25 Nov.:
About 18? people showed up for this rugged hike that started with
a steep hill.
Some of the hikers did a total of just over 8 miles on this
out-and-back hike.
