August 2001 Hike Log
- Howard Creek, 5 Aug.:
Five adventurous souls (1 female) plunged into the waters of
Howard's Creek SE of Lexington.
Sometimes wading through water up to waist deep,
they walked on the sometimes-smooth, usually rocky creek bed,
and when necessary along the banks, passing the ruins of an
old mill, millrace and dam.
The trip lasted 4 hours; it's hard to estimate the distance
covered.
There were a few slips and falls, but all in all it was fun.
The wet hikers dined at Hall's on the River
(from whose rear parking lot they had started).
- Turkey Ridge, H.-C.S.F., 12 Aug.:
After our bimonthly hike planning meeting, about 18(?) people
drove into the east side of Harrison-Crawford State Forest
by way of Old Forest Road, and hiked around 6.5 miles.
After the hike, many went to a hot dog social
arranged by the hike leader, Anne.
- Knobstone Trail, 19 Aug.:
A number of hikers did an 8-mile round trip at the Deam Lake
end of the KT.
Some had an early dinner at Neil's Place in Hamburg.
- Versailles (Ind.) State Park, 26 Aug.:
Four men met in the rain and decided to go on up to this park,
near Versailles, Ind. east of Vernon.
The rain stopped long enough for a pleasant hike of about 5.5 mi.
The hikers had a late lunch at the nearby Deutsch Pride family
restaurant.
