KISHAW
December 2000 Hike Log
- Harrison-Crawford
State Forest, 5 Nov.: Anne C. led 19 hikers on a
nice 5- or 6-mile hike arcing from SR 460 into Wyandotte
Woods State Park, stopping neara cabin and at the
foundation and chimneys of an early house. Most ate at
the Overlook in Leavenworth afterward.
- 10 Dec.: Having learned that the trails at Muscatatuck S. P. were
closed to hiking to allow hunting, we went to H-C S.F. again
and hiked in a different area,
connecting a part of the AHT and part of the Cliff Dweller Trail.
Again, some ate at the Overlook.
- It was cold and raining 15 Dec., so we had no night hike.
- On 17 Dec., a bitter cold and icy day, three people met but didn't hike.
- But that night, a good crowd (23?) came to our Christmas/Hannukah/solstice
party at Lake St. Joseph in Oldham County.
We had fun, eating lots of good food, playing our gift exchange game and singing carols.
NOTE: Someone left behind a brown glass pan; call Bryan at 899-7940 or
frazar@iglou.com
if it's yours.
- 24 Dec.: This cold (~25°F) Christmas Eve, no specific hike was scheduled.
But 4 people (1 new!) met and decided to hike at
Mount St. Francis,
in Floyd Co., Indiana.,
doing a hike of maybe four miles in the snow.
One went home with an abandoned cat, since dubbed "Frances".
- 31 Dec.: Charlestown State Park.
Larry M. led 15 hikers through the snow to connect trails 1 and 2,
sliding down slopes and crossing a large frozen stream and several smaller ones.
It was as cold as the week before, but the hikers warmed quickly.
A few ate at Rocky's Italian Grill in Jeffersonville.
- Several hikers and a larger number from Maslow's Third (a singles group)
welcomed the new year, century and millenium and had a good time
at David T.'s New Years Eve party, eating good food, drinking, chatting and dancing.
- Many of the same people made their way to Cheryl N.'s New Year's Day gathering,
which featured massages, more good pot-luck food, a guided meditation and music.
