April 2000 KISHAW Hike Log

Hoosier National Forest, 2 April: Larry led about a dozen hikers on a about a 7-mile bushwhack hike at a place the group hadn’t been to before. They saw waterfalls and a strange ceremonial(?) site. Some ate at The Overlook in Leavenworth.

Harrison-Crawford State Forest, 9 April: Around 22 of us hiked in Wyandotte Woods State Park, doing a combination of trails for about six miles. Most of us ended up at The Overlook again.

Yellow Birch Ravine, 16 April: About 15 adults, one child, one baby and one dog did this hike in the HNF near English. After the rain the day before, there was plenty of water in the four falls (including a natural bridge/falls), and lots of wildflowers. About half the group ate at the much-improved The Dock in Old Leavenworth.

Movie night, 21 April: Six hikers/walkers watched a movie at Baxter Avenue Theaters.

Vernon-Douglas Nature Preserve, 23 April (Easter): Seven people came out this holiday and hiked about 3.5 miles at this preserve near Boston, Ky., returning about 3:30.

Crosley Game Preserve, 30 April: About ten people did this six-plus-mile bushwhack along the Muscatatuck River near Vernon, Indiana. Six crawled through one of the small caves there. We saw lots of wildflowers and few people. Most of us ate at a decent but cheap restaurant disguised as a general store in Commiskey, Ind.
