Jefferson County Memorial Forest, 5 Sep. The hikers hiked the Scotts Gap loop at the end of the Siltstone Trail. The downed trees that had blocked the trail have been cleared.
Mammoth Cave National Park, 12 Sep.: Five people went on this hike. The ferries were closed (due to low water), so we hiked about 5 miles on the graveled trails on the south side of the Green River, visiting the Echo River and River Styx springs, Mammoth Done Sink and bluffs along the Green River. We ate at the Depot in Glenview, Ky. and still got back to Brooks (where we met) by 5 p.m.
Elkhorn Creek, 19 Sep.: This hike involved some creek crossing, road walking and a little bushwhacking, but the hikers made it through. Most ate well at a Shoney's in Frankfort.
Knobstone Trail, 26 Sep.: The 17 hikers (3 new) did an out-and-back hike south from the Jackson Road trailhead on the KT. A light breeze made the temperature (high in the 80s) tolerable for a rugged hike. Due to the drought, colored leaves could already be seen on the ground. About 10 ate at Schuler's near Henryville.
