May 1999 KISHAW Hike Log

Knobstone Trail, 2 May: There were 19 hikers (2 new) this warm, sunny day after Derby Day. We had planned to go to a place off Ind. 111, but being advised that it wasn't worth the trip, we did a part of the Knobstone that we hadn't done on a Sunday before. We pulled off of Ind. 56 and hiked the trail north from there to a new trailhead at Banes Hollow Road, then retraced our path for about a six-mile hike. Most of us had ice cream at Tradewinds in Sellersburg.

Lick Creek Trail, 9 May: Eleven people did this hike in the Hoosier National Forest southeast of Paoli. The trail consists of a six-mile loop, plus about a half mile to and from the parking lot. Since it is pretty flat (but pretty), we hiked it in less than two and a half hours. The weather was beautiful: sunny and in the upper 70s. We didn't eat together this Mother's Day.

Knobstone Trail, 16 May: On another sunny (but hotter) day, 15 hikers (1 new) picked up where we left off on the 2nd, hiking north from Banes Hollow Road. Tim led us on an out-and-back trip of about 6 miles. Several ate at Schuler's in Henryville.

Berea College Forest and Anglin Falls, 23 May: Four people went on this trip. The hikers went first to Anglin Falls, then to Berea College Forest (Indian Fort Mountain). At BCF, they visited the main peak (IFM), Devil's Kitchen, Buzzards' Roost, and East Pinnacle, getting briefly lost at one point. They saw lots of wildflowers and a couple of lizards. They didn't eat dinner as a group.

Shaw Lake, 30 May: Ten or eleven people (2 new) did this loop hike in the Clark State Forest in sunny weather. They ate afterward at Schuler's near Henryville.
