Jefferson Forest, Oct. 4: Since the Scotts Gap loop was closed, the 10 hikers did a through hike on the Siltstone Trail from Scotts Gap Road to the Welcome Center (6.5 mi.). Two more hiked out from the Welcome Center and back for about a 9 mi. hike. Five ate at Frontera Restaurant in Okolona.
Celina Lake, Oct. 11: A total of 25 people
hiked this warm day: there were 19 in the main group of whom 17
completed the 7 mi. loop. Most of these people, plus several
others went to the pot luck chili dinner at Jim P.s.
Garden of the Gods, Oct. 17-18: Four people
went on this camping trip. We camped at Pounds Hollow, 5 mi. from
GotG, (whose campground was full). After a short but spectacular
hike at Rim Rocks,

adjacent to Pounds Hollow, we drove to GotG and hiked ~5 mi. We missed some of the interesting formations, but two of us found them a little later.

The next morning, we struck camp in steady light rain. Half
the group bailed out at breakfast, while the other two went back
to GotG and found the most dramatic rock formations on the short
tourist loop.
We hit the road, following a scenic byway to the Smithland locks and dam, an old iron furnace and Cave-in-Rock, with a stop in Metropolis, Ill. before heading home.
Knobstone Trail, Oct. 18: Eight people hiked on the KT south from Ind. 160; 4 or 5 others hiked at Deam Lake. All got caught in the rain. The Ind. 160 group (at least) did not eat out.
Charlestown State Park, Oct. 25: Eight hikers bushwacked off Trail 1 to the remains of a mill, completed Trail 1, then took off from Trail 3 on a rugged hike along the Ohio to the ruins of an iron furnace, picking Trail 3 up at the river, then dined at Neils Place. Meanwhile, 6 others hiked Trail 2; 4 of them did Trail 3.
