September 1998 Hike Log

German Ridge, Saturday, Sep. 5: Four hikers did the 8-mile lower loop of the main trail and a cross trail. This part (if not all) of the trail has been widened into a one-lane road, mostly covered with fresh gravel. The "improved" main trail at German Ridge in Hoosier N.F. 5 Sep. '98

Hardy Lake, Sep. 6: 11 people (several new) hiked the almost 5 miles of trails on this typically hot day. Most ate at Wick’s Pizza in Louisville.

John James Audubon State Park, Sep. 13: Only 5 people (none new) went on this early-starting hike. We eked out about 5 miles of hiking, using each trail but the pet trail at least once. After visiting the gift shop and museum, we ate at Gene’s Restaurant in Henderson.

Harrison-Crawford State Forest, Sep. 20: Seventeen people (4 new) hiked this hot and very humid day. A brief rain was not enough to cool us down. We did maybe 5.5 miles round trip on the Adventure Hiking Trail, starting where it crosses IN 462. Most ate at the Overlook in Leavenworth. On the AHT in Harrison-Crawford State Forest, 20 Sep. Starve Hollow, Sep. 27: 14 hikers (4 new) hiked a total of almost 6 mi. on 3 trails (on a hot day), including a couple of steep hills. Most ate at Neil’s Place in Sellersburg. Break in hike at Starve Hollow 27 Sep. '98 (photo by Hank Levitt)
