Riverwalk, Aug. 1: Only 2 people showed for this hike. We hiked from Shawnee Park to the locks and dam and back for about 8 mi. At the beginning, we saw hot-air balloons and a horde of people in a in a 5 K run/walk.
Tioga Falls/Fort Duffield, Aug. 2: About 16 (4 new) did some part of this excursion, including the 2-mi. round trip hike to the falls, a steep 0.5 mile r.t. hike to the fort, Civil war presentations at the fort and fish at Mike Linnigs.
Mammoth Cave, Aug. 9: Four men (1 new) went on this hike (iffy weather). Instead of the First Creek trail, we did a short, vanishing trail from the Jordan Cemetery and then the White Oak Trail for a total of maybe 6 mi. After a long detour due to a closed ferry, we ate at a barbecue buffet in Cave City. Three of us then visited ruins of a Civil War fort, and a monument.
Mount St. Francis, Aug. 16: 26 people came on this easy, short hike on typically hot and hazy day. We hiked most of the trails in this southern Indiana Catholic friary and retreat center for a total of 3-3.5 mi. Most of us then went to Polly Freeze near Edwardsville.
Spring Mill State Park, Aug. 23: 24 came on
this trip. We did trails 4 and 3, with side trips to caves for a
total of about 4.5 mi. Some did a quick tour of the pioneer
village, several swam in the pool, and many ate at Neils
Place in Sellersburg.
Knobstone Trail, Aug. 30: Fifteen (2 new)
came on this hike. We did about 6 mi. out and back south from the
Jackson Road trailhead. Most ate at Neils Place and
Tradewinds.
