July 1999 KISHAW Hike Log

  • Tioga Falls and Fort Duffield, 4th of July: Seven people (1 new) hiked this steamy holiday. After the 2-mi. hike at the falls, they drove to the fort and hiked up to it to find historical demonstrations and exhibits underway.
  • Lincoln State Park and Lincoln boyhood Nat'l Mon., 11 July: Seven people (lucky number?) went first to the Lincoln Boyhood National Monument's 1-mi. loop trail and pioneer village. Then they drove to the adjacent state park, where six hiked about 4 mi. on three trails (the lame duck went swimming). All ate at the Overlook in Leavenworth.
  • Knobstone Trail, 18 July:  Ten people hiked on the KT out and back north from the Elk Creek Lake trailhead.  It was hot, but at least no one found ticks.  Six hikers, plus a non-hiker, ate at Neil's Place in Sellersburg.
  • Otter Creek Park, 25 July: Despite temperatures near 100 °F, 16 people went on this hike. We did about four miles on the yellow trail and a bit of the red, but it seemed like more. Most ate at Mike Linnig's back in Jefferson County.
