Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon Georgia
Riverside Cemetery
Cemeteries are known more for horticulture, but some provide good wildlife
viewing. Rose Hill and Riverside overlook the Ocmulgee River. Riverside is
private, whereas Rose Hill belongs to the City of Macon.
Access
Rose Hill and Riverside Cemeteries are between Riverside Drive and the Ocmugee River west of
downtown Macon. Access is via several side streets, the main one being a loop
called Jones Street.
Eventually, Rose Hill and Riverside Cemeteries will become part of the Ocmulgee Heritage Greenway. Until then, hikers can
access the Cemetery via somewhat more than a half mile of city sidewalks. Exit
the Greenway at the Spring Street Bridge exit. Go southwest (away from
Interstate 16). Turn northwest (away from downtown) on Riverside Drive and
continue until you see the cemetery down one of the side streets. To walk
between the two cemeteries, use Riverside Drive.
Note Please follow these guidelines provided by the
Rose Hill Foundation. Your cooperation is needed to assure these facilities
will remain open to the pubic. Drive and park all vehicles only on the driveways, not on the grass or walkways. Please do not climb on the stones and retaining walls. Deterioration of the stone and brick work makes them easily damaged and could cause injury. Respect any funerals in progress. Please avoid those areas where a funeral is taking place.
