Popes Ferry River Access

This site provides canoe access to the Ocmulgee River. The site has a concrete boat ramp. However the river end of the ramp drops abruptly, making this access unsuitable for boat trailers. The dirt road may be impassible during wet seasons.
There is a park bench in memory of Chris Wilder, a teenager who drowned in the river.
In 2008, there was a plan to improve the boat ramp.

Access

From Macon, take US Route 23 (Riverside Drive) north. After you cross Interstate 75, go 9 km (5.2 miles) north and watch for the fire station sign. Turn right (east) and just after the fire station turn right again. The river access is at the end of the road.
From upstream, the next good access is East Juliette , although access may also be possible at Dames Ferry .
Going downstream, the next good access is Spring Street Park in Macon. Waterworks Park in Macon offers canoe access, but the hours of operation are limited.
