Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge

Most National Wildlife Refuges were established to preserve a significant habitat, but this one proves that wildlife can return to land devastated by soil erosion. Below is a link to an excellent description. Briefly we would like to add, we have found the Little Rock Wildlife Drive quite suitable for walking, not just for automobiles.

Note: The Refuge is closed on certain days. These closures are not announced on the Refuge web site. Contact the refuge headquarters before planning your trip!

Bond Swamp, located East of Macon, is also managed by Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge.

This page is just a starting point. Once you decide which sites you might visit, we strongly recommend you contact the owner or manager for the latest information on features, access, and safety.
