Hitchiti Nature Trail


The Hitchiti Nature Trail follows Little Falling Creek to the Ocmulgee River. It features hardwood and pine forests and some granite outcroppings. 2.5 miles moderate difficulty.

The trail is part of the Brender Demonstration Forest, south of the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, and is managed jointly by the Oconee National Forest and the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Access

The Hitchiti Trail is about 0.5 miles south of the Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site. From Interstate 75, take either the Juliette or Georgia Route 18 exits east and follow the signs toward Jarrell Plantation. Parking is the opposite side of the road from the trailhead.

The trailhead is approximately Latitude 33° 02' 06'' N, Longitude 083° 42' 31'' W

Caution: Hunting is allowed anywhere in the National Forest, except where specifically prohibited. We recommend you stay away from active hunting areas, unless you are familiar with the hazards and appropriate precautions. Hunting is prohibited in certain popular recreation areas. Also, the whole National Forest is free of hunting certain parts of the year. Contact the ranger station for details.
