Central City Park
At first, this park, with its baseball diamonds and fairgrounds, does not
appear promising for wildlife viewing. However, if you walk
to the top of the levee, you will have a good view of the floodplain and Ocmulgee River.
Central City Park is the southeastern trailhead to the Ocmulgee Greenway trail through Macon. Although the
paved trail ends, pedestrians are welcome to
continue walking along the levee through the park. Wildlife viewing may be
better along the unimproved part of the levee.
Access
The park is not really in the center of the city, but it is close to
downtown. Take Riverside Drive southeast until it dead ends. Upon entering the
park, turn left and proceed to the levee. The trailhead is on the
levee.
Because of the steep levee, there is no boat access. Try Spring Street Park.
