Burgess Mountain Trail, Oconee National Forest

At 645 feet, this is not much of a mountain, but the 0.2 mile trail leads to the highest point in Oconee National Forest. Since the trees are mostly hardwoods, the view is best in the winter. The trail continues past the summit, but is not well marked.
Another trail starts at the trailhead. It is an old road, FS1102A, and it goes through mixed pine and hardwood forest. It goes about 0.4 miles and stops at a power line right-of-way.

Access

Burgess Mountain is in the Oconee National Forest. From downtown Eatonton, take Marion Street (Georgia Route 16) west 0.7 miles. Turn right on Oak Way and go 4.6 miles. Oak Way will become the Godfrey Highway (county road 213). Turn left on Forest Service Road 1120 and go 1.5 miles to the trailhead.
