The Battle of Kyuden Hida

This battle took place shortly after the believed removal of Iuchiban from his tomb (it was later found that the tomb was a false one, intended to deceive Bloodspeakers who may seek the bound maho-tsukai.) Shortly after these events, a plague of zombies attacking all over Rokugan interrupted the year's Winter Court, held this year at Kyuden Hida.

Several of the "Favored" were present. Kakita Yokuni was placed in chargem of a defending Crane unit on the right flank. Matsu Kura was made an adjutant to Ikoma Tsanuri, who commanded the nearby Lion force. As one of the only Dragons in the group, Mirumoto Yumi went to the southern force with the Phoenix, Scorpion, and Unicorn. The Crab, commanded by Hida Yakamo, spread themselves all along the line, and Hida Kisada (with an omnipresent Akodo Toturi aiding him) took overall command.

The main absence among that group was Bayushi Kochiro, who was chosen as yojimbo to Bayushi Shoju, who had departed the area on an unknown mission two weeks before.

Crane shugenja began the defense by creating dense growth on the plain around Kyuden Hida, impeding the zombie advance, a tactic soon mimicked by the rest of the defense (although rather to the consternation of the returning Hiruma.) In addition, Yokuni put a pair of orgami masters in his unit to work when the need to defend the castle became clear -- and soon, two dragons were rampaging among the incoming zombies.

Unfortunately, another oddity cropped up, this time on the opposite side -- rumored dark champions, raised spirits chosen to lead the incoming forces. Yokuni thus found himself opposite his Lion grandfather.

The battle raged back and forth, but as the Rokugani lines began to crack, Shoju and Kochiro returned, with Yogo Junzo, a highly placed Scorpion shugenja, in tow. They are likely the only ones to know what truly happened, but their arrival coincided with the immediate destruction of all incoming Shadowlands forces.

Following these events, the group was assigned magistrate duties in Ryoko Owari Toshi.
