Mark Kinney's Filk Page

This is a collection of filksongs I've written. Feel free to make whatever use of them you like, just make sure I get whatever credit I should have on it. It's not quite complete, but is at least as much so as it probably needs to be right now.

The links below pretty much all go to text files, so you'll need to use Ye Olde Backe Arrowe to return to this page. I may eventually do mp3s of a few things, for those who will listen to anything.

Send feedback, death threats, criticisms, notice of litigation, etc. to me at alberich@iglou.com.

Songs on Stories

These are filks based on specific SF/Fantasy stories.

The Assassin's Road -- based on Lone Wolf and Cub.
Darth Maul's Song -- from Star Wars: Episode I.
The Gamers of Muncie -- based on Knights of the Dinner Table.
HAL 9000 Regrets -- from 2001: A Space Oddysey.
Kwisatz Haderach -- on stuff from Dune with some help from James W. King.
Little Slaughterhouse on the Prairie -- a weird combination of Dracula and Little House on the Prairie inspired by an offhand comment.
Officer of the Watch -- a song based on my first SF exposure outside of Trek/Wars: Robert Heinlein's "The Long Watch," from Green Hills of Earth.
The Tannot Farmer -- based on the FarScape episode "Thank God It's Friday... Again."

Songs on the Locals

Songs about people or situations around me. This also includes what I call the "Ray" songs, about a particular... unique... individual of my acquaintance.

The Full Monty -- about an incident at a convention that went a bit too far... [PARENTAL GUIDANCE WARNING]
Green River Pirate -- wherein Ray pillages your biscuits, matey. [PARENTAL GUIDANCE WARNING]
The House in Bowling Green -- about a place my friends used to hang out.
The Night the Lights Went Out at Concave -- about a particularly memorable con when a storm knocked out the power at a hotel in the middle of nowhere...
Perpetual Stupidity Machine -- wherein Ray invents perpetual motion.

Other Songs

Miscellaneous songs, until there is enough of one to justify its own category.

Black Tuesday -- about 9/11.
Killfile -- originally written as an instafilk flame response on rec.music.filk.
Knocking On a Stranger's Door -- not about any real incident, really. Inspired by something said at a friend's wedding gathering.
Space Stations -- about dropping large pieces of space equipment on the Earth.
